Odysseus Come Home, 1998

While living in Halifax and teaching my first course at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design I was captured by the harbour and shipping history so important to this part of Canada. I was reading some classics this same year, as part of my research on the history of semi-divine beings (such as Daedalus, the apocryphal Simon), and had re-read parts of the Odyssey. The two things – Halifax’s sea culture and the Odyssey – overlapped with my ongoing series of works on and with paper about loss, and recording loss. The works now exist as photographs only.
